I've heard about AI featured in your newest hearing aids. How can this technology help me in my daily life?

Yes, our XG Premium model rechargeable hearing aid does come equipped with AI technology.

Your brain naturally knows how to focus on the important sounds you want to hear and filter out background noise. When you have hearing loss, that becomes much harder to do because your brain doesn’t receive the same signals it once had before your hearing loss. The AI technology in the hearing aid works alongside your brain's natural abilities rather than trying to replace them.

The technology has been trained on millions of real-world sound scenarios. What makes it different from standard noise reduction capabilities is that it doesn't just make everything quieter, which can make the world sound muffled or unnatural. Instead, it intelligently separates speech from noise, enhancing the speech, while reducing the background noise. Think of it as having a helpful assistant that sorts through the jumble of sounds around you, making speech clearer while keeping you connected to your environment.

What this means for you in everyday life is quite remarkable. Picture yourself at your grandson's birthday party. With traditional hearing aids, that environment might be overwhelming with all the children playing and adults chatting. With this technology, when you switch to your program with AI, you'll be able to focus on the conversation you're having while still being aware of what's happening around you.

What other technology is featured in your XG and XH hearing aids besides AI?

We have a great feature in our XG and XH products called—Environmental Optimiser and basically this feature works by applying personalised automatic changes in volume based on your current listening situation, continuously and automatically, adjusting as your environment changes. So, as you move from a quiet room to a busy street to a noisy restaurant, the hearing aids adapt so there’s no need to make these manual adjustments yourself!

What's this Auracast™ thing? Is it just another fancy name for Bluetooth®?

Auracast™ is quite exciting, and yes, it's related to Bluetooth®  but it’s the next generation of Bluetooth® technology, which significantly improves how hearing aids receive audio. Traditional Bluetooth® connects one device to one pair of hearing aids. Auracast™ allows you and other hearing aid users to connect to the signal.

Imagine you're at the airport and announcements are being made. With Auracast™, those announcements could be transmitted directly to your hearing aids. Or if you’re seeing a live show like watching the opera, the audio from the performance could be streamed straight to your hearing aids without any background noise.

Our Hearing Australia App features the Auracast™ Assistant, making it incredibly easy to connect to these broadcasts with just a couple of taps. It's also more energy-efficient than previous Bluetooth® technology, so your battery lasts longer. This technology can be life-changing for clients, especially those who enjoy theatre performances, religious services or live music shows.

How long do the batteries last? I don't want to be constantly changing them or charging them.

Our latest range of hearing aids offer both rechargeable or battery-powered options. For the rechargeable models, you should be able to get up to 20 hours on a single charge even while using the advanced features like AI. Just place the hearing aids in the charging case before you go to bed and you’ll wake up to fully charged devices. For battery-powered models, the exact battery life depends on your usage patterns and which features you're using, but you can typically expect 7 days of use per battery.

Are these new hearing aids durable? I lead an active lifestyle and I'm worried about damaging them.

That's a valid concern, and yes, our XG and XH hearing aids were developed with active lifestyles in mind. They feature an IP68 rating, which is the highest standard for water and dust resistance in hearing aids. This means they offer the highest dust protection and can handle rain, sweat, and the occasional splash without issue.

Hearing aids have microphone filters that protect it from things like dirt, oil, and dust. As these accumulate in the filter over time, your hearing aid’s performance will reduce, like how your vacuum’s filter affects its suction power over time. It’s important to get these filters replaced to help maintain optimal performance of your hearing aid, and this is something we can help you with.

We would also recommend a simple daily cleaning routine, which we'll demonstrate when you get your hearing aids. It takes just a minute or two and helps maintain optimal performance. And remember, as part of our service, you can have ongoing support to keep your hearing aids in top condition.

I've read about 'speech clarity in noise' features in the XG and XH range. How exactly would that help me in real-world situations?

Speech clarity features do make a difference in real-world situations.  For example, if you have hearing loss, you may have stopped doing activities you used to enjoy because you’re struggling to hear in certain situations like dinner with a partner at your favourite restaurant or even going shopping with a friend in a noisy shopping centre because it’s just too exhausting and frustrating to follow the conversation over the background noise. Hearing aids that have noise reduction features would mean it can reduce the clatter of noise, background conversations, and music, allowing you to more easily concentrate on the person that you’re speaking with.

The feature works automatically as your environment changes. If you move from a noisy café to a quiet park, the hearing aids adjust accordingly. And unlike older technology that could make the world sound unnatural, these advanced features maintain awareness of your surroundings while making speech more distinct.

I work from home and have many video meetings. How would these the XG and XH model hearing aids help me during meetings?

Using a Multi Mic + accessory, which you can purchase separately, you can connect to your computer and use Bluetooth® to deliver the meeting audio directly to your hearing aids. This means you'd hear your colleagues' voices, without straining or having to increase the volume to uncomfortable levels.

Another feature that’s handy is the ability to take hands-free calls through your hearing aids. You can answer calls with a simple double tap on your hearing aid, and the built-in microphones will pick up your voice for the other participants. This feature is available with compatible mobile phones.

The Hearing Australia app gives you additional control, allowing you to adjust volume discreetly during meetings if needed.

I love watching TV but often have to turn the volume up so high that my family complains. How would the XG and XH model hearing aids help with that?

Television viewing is actually one of the most common challenges people with hearing loss face, and it can create real tension in households when volume preferences differ. The good news is that the XG and XH model hearing aids offer excellent solutions for this exact situation.

With the TV-Streamer+ accessory which you can purchase separately, you can have the TV audio streamed directly to your hearing aids while the TV speakers remain at a volume comfortable for everyone else in the room. This means you'll hear dialogue more clearly without having to increase the volume for the whole room.

The streamer connects to your TV's audio output and transmits the signal to your hearing aids using Auracast™ technology, which provides the clearest Bluetooth® audio experience available. You can adjust your personal volume using your smartphone app or a small remote control without affecting what others hear.

I've been having trouble enjoying music lately. Everything sounds flat or distorted. Can the XG and XH hearing aids help me enjoy my music?

Music appreciation is such an important part of life, and hearing loss can definitely change how we experience music. Our XG and XH model hearing aids have specific features designed to enhance sound quality, reduce unwanted feedback, minimise distortion and create a natural and clear sound that’s still rich without compromise to quality, resulting in you being able to hear music how it was intended.

You can stream music directly from your smartphone to your hearing aids, giving you an immersive listening experience. And with the Auracast™ technology, as concert venues begin to adopt this broadcasting standard, you'll be able to connect directly to their sound systems for an enhanced live music experience.

The Hearing Australia app also lets you make personalised adjustments specifically for music listening, so you can find the perfect balance that works for your particular taste.

I've heard that hearing loss can make you feel more tired at the end of the day. Can hearing aids really help with that fatigue?

Listening fatigue is real, and it's something our clients experience before getting properly fitted hearing aids. When you have untreated hearing loss, your brain works overtime trying to fill in the gaps of missed sounds and make sense of unclear speech. This cognitive effort can be exhausting.

Our XG and XH range of hearing aids reduce this listening effort and fatigue by making speech clearer and more distinct from background noise, which in turn reduces the mental processing your brain needs to do to understand conversations. Our Premium XG model uses AI to identify and reduce thousands of specific unwanted noises while making speech more prominent, so it decreases the effort you need to apply when listening in complex environments.

The automatic environmental adaptation in some of our devices also means you're not constantly having to mentally adjust to changing sound environments as you move through your day, which further reduces listening effort.
