What to expect from our screening services
Hearing Australia offers free* 15-minute hearing checks for adults on-board our fleet of Hearing Australia buses and at local hearing screening events across the country.
Our hearing checks are conducted by our friendly community teams and usually take just 15 minutes. Our team are on-hand to guide you through any further steps you may need to take to manage your hearing.
At our hearing checks you can:
- Receive a free* 15-minute hearing check.
- Speak with our friendly staff about good hearing health.
- Find information on a range of common hearing issues.
What to expect in your first appointment
At your first appointment, your clinician will conduct a comprehensive hearing assessment.
This includes a review of your ears to make sure your ear drums look healthy and to make sure there isn’t anything blocking sounds from reaching your eardrum, like too much wax. They will also ask about your medical history, lifestyle, and hearing needs.
Your clinician will explain your assessment results and provide you with a copy to take home. If you have hearing loss, your clinician will make a recommendation based on your hearing needs and will discuss our range of solutions that you might benefit from, including hearing aids. You also have the option to try before you buy^ and get to road test a hearing aid to experience the difference in your hearing.
If you don’t have hearing loss, you will be provided with strategies and tactics to help keep your hearing healthy. If you have any questions relating to your assessment, your clinician will be happy to answer them.
You are more than welcome to bring a friend or family member along to your appointment if you wish. Bringing a loved one to your appointment can help in the decision-making process and support you on your hearing journey.
What to expect in your follow up appointment
If you’ve chosen hearing aids, we’ll see you again in a couple of weeks for your follow up appointment where we will check your hearing aids and answer any questions you might have.
What to expect in your annual review appointment?
As a Hearing Australia client, we’ll get to know you and your lifestyle so we can provide a hearing solution that best fits you and your family’s needs. We continue to evolve and change with you.
At this 40-minute annual check in, we chat with you about your lifestyle and hearing goals, help you find a hearing solution, look at your next steps and offer ongoing support. This is your Hearing Care Plan. It’s all about how we can help you enhance and improve your overall hearing health. We may conduct tests, adjust your hearing aid if needed, and provide communication strategies. Finally, we schedule a follow-up appointment in 12 months.
