Reconciliation Action Plan

Hearing Australia's vision for reconciliation is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, policies and community servicing to create success and good hearing health, leading to increased opportunities and better health outcomes.
 
We are increasing our service delivery options to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities, and we continue to provide a growing number of employment and development opportunities to First Nations peoples for success and growth.

Staff Remuneration

Hearing Australia is required to publish information detailing the scope and value of remuneration for executive and other highly paid staff. This information is included in our Annual Reports.  

Our commitment to remuneration transparency also extends to gifts received by staff. 

Information Publication Scheme

Hearing Australia Information Publication Scheme Plan 2021-2026 

Introduction 

Hearing Australia is a corporate Commonwealth entity subject to the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) and is required to comply with the Information Publication Scheme (IPS) requirements. This plan describes how Hearing Australia proposes to do this, as required by s 8(1) of the FOI Act. 

Purpose 

The purpose of this plan is to: 

  • assist Hearing Australia to comply with subsection 8(1) of the FOI Act 
  • assist Hearing Australia with planning and administering its IPS entry 
  • show what information Hearing Australia proposes to publish, and how the information will be published. 

 Objectives 

Hearing Australia’s IPS objectives are to: 

  • ensure proper management of Hearing Australia’s IPS entries; 
  • proactively identify and publish all information required to be published (s 8(2)); 
  • ensure satisfactory conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (Version 2) WCAG 2.0); and 
  • adopt best practice initiatives in implementing and administering Hearing Australia’s IPS entry. 

 Information Publication Scheme Accountability 

All members of Hearing Australia’s Executive are accountable for ensuring that Hearing Australia complies with its IPS obligations. They are supported by the Chief People and Governance Officer, and Hearing Australia’s Privacy Officer who administer the Scheme for Hearing Australia. 

Administering Hearing Australia’s Information Publication Scheme 

All members of Hearing Australia’s Executive are responsible for ensuring: 

  • information required to be published is published as part of the data holdings; and 
  • the accuracy, currency and integrity of published information relevant to their responsibilities. 

 The Chief People and Governance Officer is accountable for reviewing and updating this Plan as appropriate, at a minimum every five years. 
 
The Chief Customer Officer is responsible for ensuring that all material to be published on the Hearing Australia website is, as far as possible, accessible and conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (Version 2) (WCAG 2.0) 

Publication 

Where possible, IPS holdings will be made available for downloading directly from Hearing Australia’s website. Alternatively, IPS holdings will be made available for downloading from linked websites or through direct requests to a nominated contact officer. 

Charges 

Hearing Australia may charge a person for accessing an IPS document which is impracticable to publish online. Any charges will be consistent with charges in the Freedom of Information (Charges) Regulations 2019 and will represent the lowest reasonable cost of reimbursing Hearing Australia for specific reproduction costs or other specific incidental costs. 

Information to be published 

Hearing Australia will publish information in accordance with section 8(2) of the Act. 
 
Information Publication Scheme entries will be published in the ’About Hearing Australia’ and ‘Get in touch’ sections of the Hearing Australia website. 

Required information 

  • This IPS (s 8(2)(a). 
  • Who Hearing Australia is, including links to details about our Board and Executive, (ss 8(2)(b) and 8(2)(d)), plus details of careers. 
  • What Hearing Australia does, including details of our responsibilities and legislation (ss 8(2)(c) and 8(2)(j)). 
  • Hearing Australia reports and responses to Parliament, such as our Annual Reports (ss 8(2)(e) and 8(2)(h)). 
  • Routinely requested information and FOI disclosure log (ss 8(2)(g) and 11C. 
  • Contact details of Hearing Australia’s FOI officer (s 8(2)(i)). 

Other information 
 
Hearing Australia also publishes other information that it holds (in addition to information published under section 8(2) of the FOI Act, taking into account the objects of the FOI Act (section 8(4) of the FOI Act. This information relates to our: 

  • priorities, such as our Corporate Plan; and
  • corporate publications and resources.

The majority of documents will be published in HTML format to meet accessibility requirements.

Some exceptions may apply to:

  • PDFs for larger documents; and
  • some charts, tables and forms (which can be supplied in accessible formats on request).
