My name is Rachael Rayner and I am 24 years old. I was first diagnosed, from what my Mum tells me, at the age of eight months old, so pretty much 24 years I’ve been a client.

The reason why we picked it up early was because my Mum is also hearing impaired. She never had hearing aids at that age but because she is partly deaf, she got her kids, and so me, tested as early as was feasible and at that time, the earliest was about eight months old.

So by the time I was one, I then got my first hearing aids.

I find Australian Hearing played a very important role in my life. I mean, of course in the early years it wasn’t very obvious to me, but from my understanding, with my Mum there were lots of visits and tracking my hearing loss.
